Monster Show!

This is a poster I created for the guys at Puny Entertainment - they are hosting a halloween Monster Screenprint show and were nice enough to invite me to contribute. I should be getting my hands on several copies of this print, which I will make available for sale :)

I've been multi-tasking a number of different jobs recently...so soon I will be able to post up all the stuff I've been working on! You won't have to wait much longer.

AaaaaaeeeeEEEEEEIEEEEIEIEIEIIEIEIE!!!!!!!

Do you ever feel like you are losing your mind and any second you might become one of those drooling lunatics wearing diapers on the street? That is how I've been feeling recently, so its only appropriate I match this feeling up with this halloween poster blog entry.

This poster is for Pete's Candy Shop in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. He came up with the idea for the scary puppy party, since we all know puppies aren't really scary (or maybe they are, but in an alternate universe in the 5th dimension). IRONY IS THE NAME OF THE GAME.

Perhaps I will go gouge out one of my eyeballs or maybe I'll socialize with the undead who've been hanging around the pool in my backyard. Or even better, I"ll go play with the BACKYARDIGANS!!!!

More work is coming, and hopefully, more sanity.

Amelia's Magazine + Efterklang Review

These three paintings were created for Amelia's Magazine on an article about Efterklang, a Danish band. I wasn't too familiar with their music beforehand, but after listening to it I decided that something more abstract would be appropriate. Their music is mostly atmospheric/electronic, with sounds that blend into each other. This is what I came up with, its an approach I never took before, but I really enjoyed it. I created these paintings with spray paint and then digitally added elements in Photoshop.

Check out the article here.

US Open Sketches

So, I'm a little late for the US Open - but I figured I'd post these anyways. These were drawn one fine day when I went with my brother and dad. Only after I agreed to going did I remember how I find tennis very boring after the first couple sets...but oh well, I got these sketches out of the deal. There were a lot of characters sitting around us - mainly the weirdo I documented below.

Newsweek Polksa

This past week I got the opportunity to work on a very exciting project for Newsweek Poland. I contacted them a couple weeks ago because my friend Liz offered to do any translating I might need. The art director responded and seemed interested but unsure since I didn't speak Polish myself. So time passes and then one morning (which began just like any other morning) I received an email ENTIRELY in Polish. I immediately forwarded it to Liz and she told me the basic gyst of the assignment and article. Basically I had 1 day to create one illustration (of any size and subject matter) for this feature article on the sexual revolution taking place in Poland.

I sent them the image of the man first, unsure if it was too racy, but they said they loved it! I was relieved and very excited (I don't think an American magazine would publish this? At least probably not the American Newsweek...). So anyways, I thought my job was done - but NO. The following day I receive another email entirely in Polish and I freak out and send it to Liz once again. Apparently they URGENTLY needed the man to become a woman - and the cross to be removed. I'm guessing they were scared of offending the church and possibly many of their readers - but I am still unsure why the man had to be changed into a woman.

Anyways, I did what I could with the time given - so the top image with the woman and the heart necklace is the final piece.
I'm very excited to see this one in print!
