Brown Paper Bag Collaboration

Recently I was contacted by my fellow MICAn, Sara Barnes, to collaborate with her for her blog, Brown Paper Bag. On this blog she curates and showcases artists and from the past and present who she loves - mostly people with a hand-drawn aesthetic.

She sent me a collage in the mail which I then could work on top of in any way I pleased. Below you see what we came up with. I created two versions, The Blue Warrior, which has no digital manipulation, and The Red Warrior, which does. To read the interview at her blog, CLICK HERE.

Tea Party + Hate Mail

This piece ran in The Las Vegas Sun and the Las Vegas Weekly this week and it accompanied a story about the Tea Party Senate candidate of Nevada State, Scott Ashjian. There was a whole lot of ridiculousness going on with his candidacy, and whether or not he was running as a serious representative of the Tea Party or a secret Liberal seeking to split the conservatives. If you are interested in reading more, click here.

To add to the excitement of this article/illustration, I received my first art-hate-mail in response to my depiction of the upside down American flag. This lovely Nevadan (who I will keep nameless, for the sake of his reputation), was infuriated at my decision to "disrespect" the American flag by choosing to draw it upside-down. Clearly, this man did not take but one second to read the article and has no idea about what is going on with this whole Tea Party nonsense happening in our country. It is the Tea Party members who in fact choose to hang the American flag upside down. So perhaps my hater should take up some of his patriotic fervor with his fellow All-American-Tea-Party-Members (because I'm almost positive he probably voted for them).

I am looking forward to more hate mail in the future, hopefully from more educated individuals.

For the millions of you who keep up with my blog daily, I am sure you have noticed an OVERABUNDANCE of mysterious asian comments on all my posts. Either, I have a huge fan base in China/Korea/Japan that I am unaware of - or I am being attacked by asian spammers. I do not know how to take care of this issue, so I guess it will persist for all eternity.

Here is a poster I designed for a zine I recently finished that I will reveal in the very near future.

Tiny Dancer

This little bugger is less than 6 inches tall!!!!!!

May I also comment that I recently tried to start a new blog (for reasons that will remain unknown) - and I REALLY dislike all the new blogger templates. They are terrible, beyond terrible. PLEASE BRING BACK THE OLD TEMPLATES AND THE OLD EDITOR! Don't deprive an old woman of her favorite bread!

My favorite horse

An acrylic painting I did just for fun. It took a while for me to decide when it was finished/how to finish it. I don't know why painting works like that...

NY Times Book Review

By Ellen Bryson

This book reviewer seemed to thoroughly enjoy reviewing this book - a love story that takes place in the circus between the main character, the thin man, and the bearded lady. Seems like an interesting premise for a love story, although according to the reviewer, Max Byrd, the book only has moments of greatness. Perhaps read the book yourself and decide...or, never read the book and allow the opinions of others to shape your thoughts and decisions and continue to lead a life of non-questioning. Yes, keep walking in that shadow, pretending to see the light when all you are actually seeing is the glow from cell phone of the person in front of you.

Anyway, if you want to read the review, click here.
